People are always looking for somebody to help fix their appliances or get their HVAC system up and running. It’s also pretty easy to hang a sign, place an ad, and start taking service calls. This means there is always work to be done, but there are always unscrupulous providers out to make a quick buck.
As a homeowner, however, you want a higher degree of professionalism when you invite a service company into your home. How can you tell if a company is good at what it does and treats people well? Today we’re going to talk about some important steps to take before you hire a service company of any kind.
1. Ask your friends and family for recommendations
They will give you unfiltered information that is always in your best interest. Ask them who they use and if they would recommend that company to you. This is a great first place to start when looking for any type of service provider.
2. Look online for reviews and ratings with the Better Business Bureau or other organization
While even wonderful companies can have some negative reviews, a multitude of negative reviews is a warning sign that should not be ignored. If you see a couple negative reviews, that is one thing. If you find nothing but negative reviews, though, then keep looking!
3. Once you have a couple companies narrowed down, it is time to make a call
Call them up, ask questions, and note how you’re treated. Are they polite? Do they let you take your time on the phone without rushing you off? Do they answer your questions fully? Everybody wants to be treated well by a company, and all it takes is a quick call to get a feel for how they treat customers.
When you find a company that has a good reputation and treats you well on your initial phone call, then it’s time to make an appointment. Pay attention to your experience with them so that you can share that information with other consumers looking to make an informed decision. By offering reviews on your experience, other customers can avoid negative interactions with below-par service providers!
